Description

Abstract Landscape After Light – Original Abstract Oil Painting

Abstract Landscape After Light is a large original abstract oil painting by Laurie Rubell, a contemporary artist based in Glen Allen, Virginia.

Created across two hand-stretched canvases, the painting is designed to be displayed as one unified composition. However, the two canvases may also be separated, offering collectors flexibility in how the artwork is installed.

I paint across both canvases at the same time, allowing color, line, and movement to continue from one panel into the other. Working without preliminary sketches, I began this painting with washes of deep blue oil paint. As the composition developed, abstract and subtle figurative forms emerged beneath a field of clouds.

The painting took approximately four months to complete. Thousands of brushstrokes and multiple layers of oil paint create movement, depth, texture, and changes of intensity across the surface. More than 50 different types and styles of artist brushes were used throughout the painting process.

Color, line, and space are central to my work. With each brushstroke, I consider its beginning and ending and the moment that exists between them.

Abstract Landscape After Light is a one-of-a-kind original oil painting. There are no prints, copies, or limited editions of this artwork.
