Abstract Figures in Landscape, Oil Painting #34
Abstract Figures in Landscape #34 is an original abstract figurative oil painting by Laurie Rubell, created across three canvases that form one continuous composition.
Color, line, and space move across the three panels, connecting abstract forms with subtle figurative elements. The narrower center canvas creates a visual transition between the two larger canvases and adds another dimension to the movement of the composition.
I paint directly on hand-stretched canvas without preliminary sketches, allowing the artwork to develop and change throughout the painting process. Layers of oil paint, expressive brushstrokes, lines, and drips gradually build depth, texture, and movement across the surface.
Although the three canvases are designed to be displayed together as one artwork, they can also be separated. Changing the amount of space between the canvases allows the surrounding wall to become part of the composition and creates different ways to experience the painting.
