Abstract Figures in Landscape #3 is an original abstract figurative oil painting by Laurie Rubell, created on a single hand-stretched canvas.

This painting took six months to complete. Although filled with movement, the composition also has a sense of suspended time, inviting the viewer to pause and discover figures and imagery within the abstract landscape.

I began at the top of the blank canvas, allowing the oil colors to drip downward and create the foundation for the painting. From there, I gradually developed the composition through thousands of brushstrokes and layers of thinly applied oil paint.

Color, line, space, and imagery are central to my painting process. I work without preliminary sketches, allowing shapes, figures, and relationships to emerge and change as I paint.

I stretch my own canvas and use more than fifty types and styles of artist brushes, along with a wide range of oil colors and painting mediums. Different brushes create variations in lines, textures, and brushstrokes, while layers of saturated color produce both glossy and matte surfaces.

Abstract Figures in Landscape #3 is a one-of-a-kind original oil painting. I do not create prints, copies, or limited editions of my work.
