Flag 83 – Abstract Diptych Oil Painting by Laurie Rubell
This Abstract art oil painting is titled Flag 83
Flag 83 is a large-scale abstract oil painting I created as a diptych—a two-canvas work that forms one vivid, unified composition.
 Specifically I paint across two Canvases to create one unique vivid artwork.
While both canvases are made to hang together, you can also display them apart for a bold, spatial effect.
As each panel measures 66” x 44” x 1.5”, making this a commanding piece of contemporary art.
 To begin, I always work from raw, hand-stretched canvas—not pre-primed or store-bought surfaces.
And  I never use prior sketches As I paint live and in the moment, allowing the composition to evolve as I build layer after layer of oil paint.Â
For Flag 83, I started with washes of deep yellow tones, gradually working in movement and depth.
 As I painted across both canvases, I imagined energized figures swirling in an abstract sky—crossing into a landscape of red, blue, and white.
While this oil painting explores a sense of transition and momentum, as though you’re moving through a charged emotional space.
 Because I focus on color, line, and space, each brushstroke represents the start or end of a moment.
 In fact, this painting contains thousands of brushstrokes.
And I used over fifty different types of artist brushes and many tubes of oil colors to create this Abstract oil paintingÂ
 Most Importantly, I do not make reproductions or limited editions.
As each  painting I create is one-of-a-kind.
 Flag 83 took over four months to complete, and like all of my original artwork, it’s signed and dated on the back of the canvas.
 Moreover, detail photos reveal the texture, energy, and intricate brushwork that define my process.
Because the vibrant colors and bold composition make Flag 83 a striking centerpiece for any modern interior.
 Basically this abstract oil painting features energized figures swirling in this abstract sky.
