Ascending Landscape is a one-of-a-kind modern abstract oil painting by Virginia-based artist Laurie Rubell.
Additionally,this large-format artwork (66”x38”x1.5”) explores the balance between change and structure
As this oil painting was created through months of intuitive painting and detailed brushwork.
While using the raw canvas as a starting point, I applied thick blue oil paint across the top, allowing it to drip naturally.
As the paint flowed downward, I used many unique brushes to guide the drips, forming abstract shapes and subtle figurative elements.
Because Every brushstroke is intentional, capturing both starts and endings of imagined landscapes.
In fact No pre-sketches were made, and I stretched the canvas by hand over a custom wooden frame.
Because The process was spontaneous, with colors, lines, and spatial relationships evolving in real-time.
As I layered multiple thin glazes of oil paint using a variety of mediums, creating complex textures and a luminous depth of color.
Because Above the horizon, cool blue tones transition into a vivid, color-rich abstract landscape, where figures, lines, and drips emerge organically.
Also Vertical trails of paint, radiant hues, and soft textures give this original abstract painting a sense of movement and emotion.
In fact This signed and dated original artwork is not part of a series—no prints or reproductions exist.
