Abstract Figures in Landscape #29 is an original abstract figurative oil painting by Laurie Rubell, created across two large hand-stretched canvases that form one continuous composition.

I began this painting with washes of deep blue oil paint applied to the blank canvases. I turned the right-hand canvas and allowed the color to drip naturally, creating the foundation for the composition that followed.

Over more than four months, I gradually built layers of color, shapes, lines, drips, and expressive brushwork across both canvases. Abstract figures emerge within the landscape, creating movement between recognizable forms and abstraction.

Color, line, and space are central to my painting process. I work directly on the canvas without preliminary sketches, allowing the composition to evolve and change as I paint. I use a wide variety of artist brushes and oil colors to create depth, movement, and richly layered surfaces.

The two canvases are designed to hang together as one artwork, allowing the composition to continue from one panel to the other. They may also be separated, allowing the surrounding space to become part of the artwork.

Abstract Figures in Landscape #29 is a one-of-a-kind original oil painting. I do not create prints, copies, or limited editions of my work.
