As the composition developed, I imagined energized figures swirling through an abstract sky and moving into a landscape of red, blue, and white.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eColor, line, and space are central to my work. Thousands of brushstrokes create movement across the two canvases, giving the painting a sense of transition and momentum. I think about the beginning and ending of a moment with each brushstroke, allowing the imagery to emerge and change as I paint.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI work directly on hand-stretched canvas without preliminary sketches. Using a wide variety of artist brushes and oil colors, I build the painting layer by layer and allow the composition to evolve throughout the process.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFlag 83\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e took more than four months to complete. The two canvases are designed to hang together as one artwork, although they can also be separated to allow the surrounding space to become part of the composition.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis is a one-of-a-kind original oil painting.
