For example, placing the canvases farther apart changes how the forms, colors and lines relate to one another. In this way, the surrounding space becomes part of the viewing experience.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHow I Create My Paintings\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI begin each painting without preliminary sketches, allowing the work to develop intuitively. First, I apply layers of oil color. Then, I build depth, texture and movement through drips, lines and thousands of individual brushstrokes.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThroughout this process, I use more than fifty types and styles of artist brushes and a wide range of professional oil colors. Some marks remain delicate, while others bring bold color and movement to the surface.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs I paint, abstract forms often merge with hints of figures and landscapes. Shapes emerge, shift and blend into nearby areas of color. I stretched both canvases over their wood frames myself rather than using pre-stretched canvases.
